Julie and Dan (Chapter 1)
Julie sat down on the bus and opened the historical romance to start reading.
She smiled to herself thinking of all the books she had read and imagined
herself to be the heroine in a world she craved, with love and attention. She
slowly turned the page and felt the butterflies in the pit of her stomach. Every
time she read about heroes upending their heroines over their knees for an old fashioned spanking
she shivered. She quickly looked around the bus to see if anyone had noticed her
reaction but nothing. The 2 old ladies in front were still chatting about their
husbands' illnesses and the teenager opposite was too interested in whatever
music was blasting in his ears from his walkman. Julie reluctantly closed the
book and stood up seeing her stop in the distance. "I hate
interviews," she thought, "but I really must get this job."
This was to be her first job in 4 years, ever since Jamie had been born. Getting
off the bus she slowly walked to the staff entrance of the supermarket and
pressed the button to be let in. After what seemed an age, the door finally
opened and she nervously went up to the security desk. The middle-aged security
guard looked up and smiled.
"Can I help you?" he asked. Stumbling on her words Julie whispered "I eh, I have an interview with Mr Davis, my names Julie Marshall." The security guard looked down on his clipboard and then spoke into the microphone on his desk. Julie jumped as she heard his voice on the tannoy. "Mr. Davis to reception please, Mr Davis to reception."
Looking at Julie again, she was told to take a seat and wait. Julie looked down at her hands and felt how clammy they were. Why did she get herself in such a state, she hated the way she was so shy and unsure of herself.
"Hello, Julie Marshall?" a deep male voice said. Julie quickly looked
up into deep blue eyes and nodded. Standing up she took the outstretched hand
and shook it. "I'm Dan Davis, would you like to come this way." Julie followed Dan down a corridor, almost having to trot to keep up with him.
Her 5' 4" height made her tiny next to his 6' 2".
Dan opened the door into the interview room and pulling out a chair for Julie,
he sat down opposite. He sat for a minute and looked at the scared young girl
opposite and his heart went out to her. Her shoulder length blond hair was tired
back in a pony tail and when she did look at him, she had brown eyes like a
frightened doe caught in the car headlights. Shaking himself he looked down at
the folder in front of him.
"Julie, you say in your application form that you are quite happy to work 3 nights a week, shelf stacking?"
"Yes, but I cant do more nights than that," she replied.
"That's fine as long as you can start at 10pm and finish between 6am and 7am. Sometimes we have a big delivery and will need the extra hour. Do you have a problem with finishing then or do you have children you need to rush back to?"
Julie knew from past experience that a single mother with a young child always went to the back of the queue where jobs were concerned and what was one little white lie. Mrs. Evans next door had already agreed for Jamie to sleep at her house 3 nights a week and take him to nursery so that Julie could sleep.
"No, I don't have any ties," she lied.
"OK that's great. It doesn't matter that you have never done this type of work before as you will get full training. Do you have any questions for me?"
Julie shook her head, not trusting herself to say more. She always kept herself to herself so no one would find out her secret anyway.
"If that's all, I would like to offer you the job and if you could start this Monday?" Dan looked at her and wondered if he could crack through to the woman behind the frightened unsure little girl.
Julie looked up and smiled. "Yes, Monday will be fine. Thank you."
Wow what a smile, Dan couldn't help but smile back and decided there and then he was going to find out more about this young lady if it killed him. "We better get you kitted out with some uniform and then I will leave you with personnel to fill out the boring bits."
That's if they have a uniform small enough, there's nothing
of her, he thought.
After getting her uniform, Julie was left with personnel and Dan tried to go
back to work. It was difficult because all he could think of was Julie and he
couldn't understand why. No one had ever affected him like this before and
although he last relationship had spilt up a year ago, he hadn't looked at
another girl in the same way for ages.
Julie finished with personnel and rushed back to Mrs. Evans to pick Jamie up.
Opening the door to her little house she looked round the living room and
smiled. I had better remember never to bring anyone from work back here, she
thought looking round at all the toys in the living room. Picking up her young
son and cuddling him she thought of the extra money she would now have to spend
on this little darling and the life she could give him. What a stark contrast to
her own upbringing with no love, attention or parents.
Julie and Dan (Chapter 2)
Although Julie was really nervous starting her new job on that Monday night, it
went very well and everyone was really friendly towards her. Any personal
questions were answered quickly and the subject changed. Julie just came across
as shy and after a while they seemed to leave her alone. The 3 nights went by
quickly and even Jamie seemed to enjoy staying over at Auntie Megs (as he had been calling
Mrs. Evans). Even Julie had admit that working nights wasn't too bad and
she was able to get enough sleep. She was also surprised at how much she seemed to enjoy her job, she always thought shelf stacking would be
boring but it wasn't. The only thing Julie hadn't liked was the way that
whenever she looked up Dan seemed to be watching her.
After the second week he came up to her and asked if she would like to go for a
drink one evening. She refused. This went on for a couple of months with her
looking away whenever he caught her eye. The last
thing she needed was a relationship, even a friendly one. No one was going to
find out about Jamie and she had built up too may walls after Dave, Jamie's
father, left.
Dan was at boiling point. He just couldn't work out what he had
done wrong. He had always got on really well with all his staff, but Julie was
another matter. He really fancied her and couldn't remember the last time he
felt about anyone in this way. He just couldn't understand what the hell he had
done wrong or why she had built all the walls around her, but he knew one thing what ever happened he intended to
break them down.
Dan found the aisle in the store Julie was working and went up to her. She
looked up as she heard someone approach but as usual as soon as she saw it was
Dan, she looked away.
Dan was furious. "Right, my office now!"
Julie couldn't believe her ears as she looked up to see Dan angrily walk away.
She quickly got up and followed him. She entered his office and looked around.
"Close the door and sit."
Julie had never heard him so angry but did as she was asked.
"Right young lady, I think it's about time we had a little chat and find
out what the hell is bothering you," he demanded. "I don't bite, so
stop looking so damn scared and jitterish every time I come near
you." Dan remained standing looking straight at her. God she is
beautiful, he thought, If only she would let me in. It took all his self-control not to stretch his hand out and gently touch her bowed
head.
Julie looked up at him. "I don't know what you are talking about, I don't
have a problem with you," she stated. "I just wondered if there might
be a problem with my work as you seem to be checking up on me
all the time," she said bravely. God was that me speaking, she couldn't
believe she had been so brave.
"Stop it, now, Julie, you know what the hell I'm talking about. You're always
looking away or trying to get out of my way. Well this stops now, do you hear
me?"
Julie nodded. She had to stop herself from smiling; this is what she had dreamed
about, getting a lecture from a good-looking bloke. All that was missing was the spanking and then love and
forgiveness. "Can I go now?" she asked.
"Yes, go but Julie I won't stop you know, you will go out with me one
day."
Julie couldn't help it, she ran out of the office. Of all the conceited
bull-headed idiots, as if I'd want to go out with him. Her conscious argued with her,
You know you do. She quickly returned
to her aisle and started unpacking the boxes of pasta.
One of the boxes on the pallet looked really heavy and she knew she should have
asked for some help but decided to try herself. She slowly lifted the box and
took it over to the shelves. Before Julie knew what was happening her mouth went
dry and she could see stars and then nothing.
Dan was working in the aisle next to Julie. He had just bent down to pick up a
box of coffee when he heard a crash. Dropping the box he ran towards the noise.
He wasn't the only one, pushing through the little crowd that had accumulated, he
bent down beside Julies limp body.
"Julie," he said picking up her wrist and feeling for a pulse. Turning
he shouted, "Someone get the first aid box, no forget it call an ambulance,
QUICK!"
Julie's eyes slowly opened, looking straight into Dan's concerned ones. She
tried to sit up. "I'm fine. Ooooooh, my head," she whispered as she lay
back down.
"Don't move," he commanded. The ambulance men arrived
and it was decided that Julie, accompanied by Dan would go to the hospital for a
check up.
The doctor pulled the curtains of the cubicle closed after telling Julie just to
lie quietly. He went back into the
waiting room and sat down next to Dan. "Is she ok?" Dan's concern was
written all over his face.
"Yes she will be fine, as long as she eats."
"Pardon?"
"Mr. Davies let me be frank with you. Miss Marshall is
suffering from low sugar levels in her blood which caused her to faint,"
the doctor explained.
Dan's eyebrows came together in a frown. "Are you trying to tell me that
she hasn't eaten?"
"In a nutshell, yes, I would say she hasn't had a proper meal for at least
a couple of days. She is also suffering from a mild concussion where she banged her head so I would like to keep her in
over night and then she should be able to go home in the morning. Then it's just
a question of her looking after herself a bit better."
"Oh, don't worry about that. I know one young lady who is going to start
thinking about things a lot more than she is at the moment."
The doctor looked at the grim expression on Dan's face and smiled. I can see
she will be looked after very well, he thought, and looking at his face,
she is in trouble.
After getting Julie settled on a ward for the night. The doctor left Julie and
Dan alone, on the condition that Dan left after 10 minutes so that Julie could
rest.
"Just what do you think you were doing young lady," Dan scolded.
"I beg your pardon, its got nothing to do with you," Julie cried.
"Thank you for bringing me in here but that's as far as it goes. I'm old enough to look after myself."
"Oh, are you now. Well that's where you are wrong. It has everything to do
with me because believe it or not Julie Marshall, I care for you and from what I
have seen tonight you are not doing a very good job of looking after yourself,
are you?"
"Julie tomorrow when you get out of here, I'm taking you
home, that's MY home and you are going to
stay there until I'm 100% sure that you are OK. Then when you are feeling better
young lady we are going to have a serious chat about what has happened and why.
Are you listening to me?"
All Julie could do was nod. But she still felt that odd tingle down her spine.
After Dan, at long last, left Julie's side to go home, she pressed her buzzer to
call the nurse over. "I'm really sorry to bother you, but I have a really
big problem and I was wondering if you could help me." Julie explained
about Jamie and how she had to contact Mrs. Evans to let her know what was
happening. The Nurse smiled when Julie told her that Dan had no knowledge of Jamie but agreed to help her out.
She went away and returned 10 minutes later to say she had spoken to Mrs. Evans
and she had said that Julie was not to worry. She would keep Jamie for as long
as was needed, he was great company, anyway.
Dan picked Julie up the next morning and took her back to his
place. He settled her down on the sofa, with her feet up and a blanket over her
legs. "Stay put young lady while I fix us something to eat."
"That's OK I'm not really hungry," she admitted.
Dan looked furious. "That's exactly what I'm on about. I don't care if
you're not hungry, you are going to eat and you are going to start eating
regularly or you will be in so much trouble, young lady. Is that
understood?"
Julie nodded. What was wrong with her, why couldn't she stick up for herself?
Although she had to admit it was nice having someone look after her and if it
hadn't been for lying about Jamie, she would have liked to get to know Dan and
she did fancy him.
Dan watched Julie eat every mouthful of the omelet he had made and when she had
finished he took the tray and sat down beside her.
"Do you have any idea how worried I was about you and how mad I was when I
found out it was just a case of you not eating? Julie, I care for you and I
would like to get closer to you but, sweetheart, you have to let me in. Do
you understand?"
Julie couldn't believe it. No one had ever shown that much concern for her and she
almost felt as though she couldn't let her defenses down. "I can't,"
she whispered.
"Oh, yes you can and you will. All this stops now, do you hear me?
And there will be consequences if you don't," he reprimanded. "Now to
start off every time you don't look after yourself and don't eat, I'm going to
spank you."
Julies head shot round and looked at him. "What! You can't...it's nothing
to do with you," she spluttered.
"That's where you are very wrong. It has everything to do with me because I
love you and intend to be a big part of your life and if you won't listen, maybe
I can just show you."
Dan's hand shot out and grabbed Julie around the arm. Before she knew what had
happened he had pulled her, face down over his lap and all she could see was his
shoe and the carpet.
"No, please Dan, don't spank me. I've never been spanked before," she
spluttered.
"Never, not even by your parents? Well maybe, little girl, this is
well overdue and I'm just the man to do it."
Dan raised his arm and SMACK! his palm came down and landed on her bottom. As it
was her first spanking he had left her thin dress on. It wouldn't give her much
protection anyway but it would help her modesty.
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
Dan's hand rained down on Julie's backside. "You are going to start looking
after yourself, do you hear me young lady?"
Julie was crying almost instantly. She couldn't believe this was happening to
her and god, did his hand hurt. All she could do was cry and nod her head.
At one point she had tried to put her hand behind her, for protection but all
that happened was Dan grabbed her arm and pinned it to her back.
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!
"I love you Julie and if I have to spank that into you, then so be it. But
next time I won't be so lenient and it will be on your bare bottom "
Dan hated to hear Julie sob like this but knew that he had to do something to
make her realize how stupid she had been. All of a sudden he stopped, after all,
this was her first ever spanking and she had had a concussion. He didn't
want to hurt her.
Julie was so surprised but pleased when the spanking stopped but somehow she
felt drained but at peace. When Dan suddenly picked her up and held her, stoking
her hair she felt something more - love!
After a while Dan reluctantly let her go and stood up. "How about I drive
you home so you can sleep and then tomorrow I think we should talk to see what
happens now, OK?
As the car pulled up outside Julies house, she shivered. The spanking he had
given her at his house was nothing compared with what she thought would happen
if he walked though her front door.
"Thanks for dropping me off Dan, but I can look after myself now." She
hoped he hadn't heard the tremor in her voice.
Dan looked at her puzzled, anyone would think nothing had happened between them
and they were again, strangers. He put his hand on her knee and said, "I
meant what I said last night, Julie. I care for you and I've no intention of leaving you on the doorstep without making sure you
have enough food in the house and that you will start looking after
yourself."
"I will honest, please just trust me," her voice sounded almost
desperate and it sent alarm bells off in Dan's head.
"Ok, no more mucking around," he demanded. "Give me your keys and
I will see you settled." Dan looked across at Julie as she shook her head.
"Julie, I am serious and if you want a repeat performance in the car of the
spanking you had earlier, you are going the right way about it."
Julie paled and handed Dan her house keys. Her stomach was doing cartwheels and
she knew she was in real trouble. If only she could wind the clock back, she
would never have lied to Dan about having no ties. Jamie was everything to her
and she should never have tried to hide him. All Julie could do was follow Dan
to the door. He opened the door and then slowly turned to Julie. He didn't have to say
a word, his expression said it all and so did Julies as she went white.
